Handling it yourself was the whole training. So think of this as handling it yourself — you're the one making the call.

The numbers are blunt: men die by suicide at roughly four times the rate of women, and use mental health care at about half the rate.¹ The gap isn't weakness — it's that the front door was designed in a language a lot of men were never taught. Three pieces, no performance required.

The tool

You don't need the right words. "Work stress" is a fully valid entry ticket — where it goes from there is the therapist's job, and anger, numbness, and "I just don't feel much" are all workable starting materials. If sitting face-to-face sounds terrible, note that telehealth → exists and some therapists do walk-and-talk sessions — literally therapy while walking. The consult call is 15 minutes, free, and here's exactly what happens on it →. One useful filter: many men do best with a therapist who is direct and goal-oriented — say those words when you search or ask.

The inventory

[N_MEN] verified California therapists list men's issues as a focus — [N_MEN_MALE] are men themselves (shown on profiles), if that matters to you; it's allowed to. Fees on every profile, [N_MEN_EVE] with evening slots that don't touch the workday. Filter →

The question, asked plainly

Q: What actually happens if I say the dark stuff out loud? A: A conversation, not an intervention. Saying "sometimes I think everyone would be better off without me" gets you a therapist asking careful questions and building a plan with you — not a report, not handcuffs →. Saying nothing is the only version with no move on the board. If it's tonight and it's heavy: 988, call or text. The counselor has heard it before, from men exactly like you.
